Welcome to the first blogged version of ‘The Glutton Club’!!
Now, despite the name, this is not a Roman style orgy of over indulgence and being fed grapes by naked servants (that’s next week!) but a gathering of friends with a keen interest in a better than average food or dining experience. Or… simply an excuse to have great food, shared with friends, with some booze thrown in for good measure. Delete as appropriate.
So, eat in, or go to an interesting restaurant?
We went ‘in’…..what to eat?…I’d just finished a long meat free month in january, for no other reason than I wanted to see if I felt any better for the lack of meat in my diet (professional carnivore) and also to prove to the GF who said I’d never last!! That made the choice far easier, we just needed to get our mitts on the biggest piece of rare breed beef we could afford. Arise Sir Massive rib of belted Galloway, you are the chosen one.
I shall dispense with the story of lack of organisation, waiting on meat arrival from courier, staring longingly out of pub windows for said courier and generally whipping ourselves into a frenzy of hunger as the time ticked away and all the while the beer continued to flow only exasperating the mood. We had planned to eat this fine piece of meat at about 2 pm, we finally ate it at 8 pm! Excelled myself again. Timings everything, if your bothered about it.
The meal eventually consisted of a giant yorkshire pudding, filled to the brim with slices of medium rare rib, carrots and onions that the joint had roasted on and lashings of gravy. Great piece of meat purchased from www.farmison.com, which looks a very interesting place to do a bit of foodie shopping in the future.
All washed down with a few ports and the odd rum or two.
A great night, then the conversation turned to what to have at the next ‘glutton’…looks like we’re eating in again and the votes are in and counted….little-jonny-cottonsox wants pork (even though I’ve never seen him eat pork outside of a chinese restaurant!), Dr. White wants…pork! A staggering result nobody saw coming. Pork it is then, I’ll try to do something a little different with it. Until next time…
